Advantages of Product Packaging
We can define product packaging as a type of technology that involves concealing and protecting a product for purposes of use, distribution or storage. It can also be defined as the process of designing, evaluating and manufacturing packages for products. In general, it is a system that is coordinated to prepare goods or products for transport, logistics, sale, ware housing and end use. It is considered a very useful technology for it protects, transports, contains, informs, preserves and sells the product. In most of the countries in the globe it is very much integrated by governments, institutions, industries, businesses and also individuals who are in their own private endeavors.
In the ancient era, it was seen that the first packages were made up of the natural materials that were available during that period. For example, they would use wooden boxes, wooden barrels, baskets of reeds, pottery vases, wine skins, woven bags, ceramic amphorae and the like.
The early glass and bronze are other materials that were processed and used to make packages and got developed as time went by. People got to store their products in tins after the tin plates were invented in the modern era. The need to preserve food while transporting and also for a longer period brought about the idea of tin canning which was developed by inventors to improve tinning. After canning was invented inventors grew wiser and were able to come up with the paper-based packaging. As a new era was ushered in the 20th century, product packaging developed in a huge way because more packaging materials were made. The packages used in that time were like panels on cartons, transparent cellophane over wraps and Bakelite closures on bottles. To both developed developing and developed countries product packaging became very essential since then.
Product packing has many other uses than just packing in product for concealment. It offers protection against any physical interference like from electrostatic discharge, mechanical shock temperature and the like. It provides a blurrier protection like from water vapor, oxygen, dust and so on. Product packaging also gives an opportunity to be able to transmit information to the consumers through the labeling the product on the external face of the package. It has encouraged the marketing of the particular product that will be packed in the package. Security is a major aspect in product packaging because there are packages that designed to be tamper resistant meaning they can deter manipulation of the packages or they can also be tamper-evident in that they will show evidence of any tampering of the package. The packages are also designed to have features that add convenience in display, handling, reclosing, sale, recycling, distribution, ease in disposal, reusing and stacking.
